Women’s Problems in the present society are present in almost every field of human activities: Health, education, domestic life, career, human rights. Partially or completely, these problems exist in every corner of the world. Millions of women face these challenges every day.
Though men can’t wear dresses, women can wear pants. Being a woman in a man’s world ain’t easy.
Patriarchal societies force women into little boxes and restrict their opportunities. Accordingly, day by day women’s problems in the present society grows bigger. Moreover, this topic is quite complicated and it is related to many other challenges women have to fight against.
Many cultures are structured the way that only one gender benefits. Problems concerning women’s rights, health and education hardly get much attention.
Of course, the fight for gender equality has accomplished many goals over the course of past decades and there has been some progress. However, women’s rights and improvements concerning them still have a long way to go before women get a fair shake.
So let’s have a look at women’s problems in the present society they have to confront every single day. Just one very important remark: these problems matter men as well.
P.S. Some of these issues occur on daily basis and might seem quite surprising. Many people don’t even notice them. Others are more complex problems that demand thorough analysis and should be tackled worldwide.
Women’s Problems in the Present Society: Challenges Women Run into During the Day
Challenges and Stereotypes 1) Women can’t Travel Alone
Many people are pretty sure that traveling alone is not an option for women. And if you ask why, they say that women don’t think like men and can’t protect themselves.
Well, I cannot express anything else but blank stare while listening to this because it doesn’t make sense, folks! What does “can’t think like men” mean? Are men good at thinking of better options of traveling? Or are they secure from falling into trouble?
Well, first and foremost- I suppose women DON’T have to think like men just because they are women. Secondly, if a woman travels alone she doesn’t necessarily have to get into trouble. But if she does, she knows how to protect herself.
Such way of thinking, actually, is a matter of stereotypical thinking and mentality. People are sure that women always seek men’s protection. Moreover, in many Muslim countries, women are not allowed to leave the house or travel alone.
Challenges and Stereotypes 2) Women’s Interests are Undervalued
Undervalued interests and ideas are one of the main women’s problems in the present society women confront every single day. The freedom of speech is among the rights every human has. However, the patriarchal society plays the game by rules it has already set and makes gender inequality more obvious.
Regardless how useful the thought or interest expressed by a woman can be they sometimes never get enough attention. This is the result of the idea that women cannot be serious because of their emotions and shallow mindset. That is to say, women take nothing seriously and their interests cannot be important.
Are you serious men? The feeling of protecting and caring is given to women by nature. So nobody else can be more serious than them.
Challenges and Stereotypes 3) Women are Crazy about Pink Items and Spend Hours on Finding them in Stores
Couldn’t be more stereotypical thinking! And such approach is no exception in neither Asia nor East and West. Even parents tend to buy pink clothes for their baby girls and blue clothes for baby boys. Why on earth do people think that all women love only pink?
Moreover, they are sure that women are ready to spend hours in stores for pink hauls. This is not true. So, dear manufacturers, stop making all feminine things pink. It’s just a myth.
Women’s Problems in the Present Society: Health Issues
Studies show that women have longer life expectancy than men. However, this doesn’t mean that women enjoy their healthy lifestyle worldwide every day.
Women face a lot of health problems. Fortunately, there are a bunch of nonprofit organizations and charities that tackle the problem and help women get the care they need to improve their health condition. However, health challenges remain one of the major women’s problems in the present society.
Malnutrition, for instance, impacts two billion people worldwide. But it hits women harder. Those who suffer from vitamin deficiencies are more likely to die during childbirth. According to a research, malnutrition stands behind 110,000 deaths during childbirth each year.
Besides women in many countries may also cut back on their food because of famine or drought hit. Like in other cases, foot shortage also hits women quite hard.
Mental health problems are another struggle for women. Sometimes these issues do not get enough attention when looking at the state of women’s health because they’re “invisible”. But when women are not treated properly it will be really hard to overcome the consequences.
Women’s Problems in the Present Society: Education Opportunities are not Equal for Males & Females
Investing in a girl’s education is the best thing her family, community, or country can do. It is no news that a good quality education can be life-changing not only for girls or women but boys, and men, helping them to develop to their potential and putting them on a right path for success in their life.
This will create more advanced societies. It is kind of kick-start for a circle of development.
Girls, who get a proper education, for example, play more active roles in their communities, earn money and bring up healthier children.
This leads to poverty reduction, actually. However, the reality is a little bit more disappointing. Limited access to education is a major women’s problem in present society in our days.
There are countries in the world where girls do not get a quality education. There are about 80 states worldwide where progress on girls’ education has halted. These countries are not meeting the educational goals set for girls.
In a nutshell, they are stuck in an education struggle trying to enroll all girls and boys in primary school. Efforts are made to close the gender gaps between boys and girls at both the primary and secondary levels as well.
However, the results are still worrying. Girls continue to drop schools for various reasons.
Women’s Problems in the Present Society: Women’s Rights Violations
The fact that women have less access to healthcare and education is a terrible violation of women’s rights. The wage gap, no work after marriage, domestic violence and harassment make the image more horrible. At larger extent, women face rights’ violation everywhere and every day.
The “glass ceiling” is the well-known phrase that women have been trying to break through for years. It is a general term for gender equality, mainly in the workforce. To be frank a lot has been achieved in this sphere.
It is no longer unusual for women to run businesses and big corporations. They also hold job titles in management in traditionally male-dominated aspects.
However, regardless all the progress that has been achieved, sexism and harassment still make an appearance both in the streets and workplace.
