Women and leadership has been a controversial issue for a long time. To our shame, it still is in some parts of the world. There still are people who don’t trust women leaders, they just have the understanding that the world should be male-dominated and women have nothing to do with leadership.
We are aware of all these myths, claims and speculations that women and leadership have nothing in common. Women in the boardroom are like taboo subjects in many countries of the world. Why?
Probably the problem lies in the mentality and cultures. However, the former president of the USA once mentioned that women make better leaders than men. This means that the solution to the problem is tightly connected with women empowerment.
In general to identify the best leader one should understand what makes him or her a great leader. I mean by underestimating the values, capabilities, and skills of a person it’s impossible to identify who can be a good leader.
Fortunately, the tide is changing and more women are being promoted into leadership positions in a new era. Such women are always in the lead of top charts.
Their stories inspire others. However, there is still much work to do to achieve the goal completely. Mindsets are supposed to be changed and cultures have to be more tolerant.
And to elevate more women to leadership roles a lot of development courses are held as well. They help to overcome women and leadership challenges. If need something like that find it down below.
Women and Leadership: Challenges on the Way To Boardroom
In the past women didn’t have many opportunities and lacked nearly every right. They had no access to education, finances, etc. A-home-stay mom and a devoted wife who carried the burden of the bunch of household duties was considered the perfect one.
She had no power to bring any change in the society. However, history has kept some revolutionary names as well. Anyway, women, in general, were found weak who sought help in fathers or husbands.
In new era women and power progress hand in hand. Yeah, I think we should not neglect the shifts that have improved women’s lives. Now women can voice more demand than in the past.
The corporate ladder is also available for many women. However, women and leadership still face some stigmas and stereotypes that harden the way to the progress.
Many factors can cause barriers. One of them is the traditional image of a woman tied up to the household duties. Besides stereotypes on gender differences and prejudice toward women limit their chances.
All these and other challenges deprive women of accomplishing their family and work balance. So here are other challenges for women in leadership which mean that the progress toward more opportunities for women has been a slow process.
BTW, these challenges sometimes seem so senseless that I cannot stop laughing out loud. How about you?
Women and Leadership Challenge #1: Women are Far too Emotional
Emotions are given to everybody (not only women) at birth. And if you believe the widespread myth about real boys who never cry, please ponder over it carefully.
NOBODY can hide his or her feelings and emotions. As for controlling them it is the other side of the medal. And I bet women you find emotional and incapable of dealing with harsh political situations can handle it as well as their “less emotional” male counterparts.
Women and Leadership Challenge #2: Women who Work with Men are not Safe
Couldn’t be any more stupid challenge! Folks, please try to be serious! Do you really mean this? I do not think this is enough to deprive women of being leaders especially in a new era like this.
Every person is responsible for his or her actions. So, wisely established boundaries can contribute to the better working environment between women and men. In other words, this is not the case when women and leadership position should face hardships.
Women and Leadership Challenge #3: Being a Pushover is Typical of Women Leaders
Women know how to be caring and responsible. It’s their nature. While leading she can be equally kind. But it doesn’t necessarily mean that a woman leader can’t make tough decisions or stand her ground.
In a New Era the Words Women and Leadership Together No Longer Sound Strange: Women Redefine Leadership
It goes without saying that a balanced representation of women in top leadership positions produces better financial results. This is fact and needs no proof. Although women are treated with prejudice even in a new era like this some social advancements help them to be good leaders.
The words women and leadership no longer sound weird together as they did in the past. And this happens not only due to changing attitudes and opinions. The millennial women now redefine leadership and expand influence.
Today many women manage to create family and work balance even though some people still find them untrustworthy. This happens due to the bunch of features women posses and make the knot “women and leadership” tighter.
The very first quality women leaders have is self-confidence. They believe in their power. Besides they have all that beauty and brains to lead. This self-confidence makes them goal oriented. Thus they turn into role models for their kids.
Women in leadership also pave their own way without external help. They know clearly what is important for them. They try to be innovative and creative while going higher along the career ladder.
They always seek for development which brings social and economic changes. So this is how all the ambitious women reshape and redefine leadership ideas. Besides they make a huge use of development courses.
