The elections took place and Aung San Suu Kyi was counted as the winner. On the basis of the elections, the party of Aung San Suu Kyi should have gained from 80-90 percent of the parliamentary seats. However, everything appeared not so easy.

The harsh military powers of Burma were not still ready to accept the victory of the rivals. They annulled the result of the elections and moreover, they place Aung San Suu Kyi under house arrest for more than 20 years.

In 2010 Aung San Suu Kyi was released from house arrest. Aung San Suu Kyi completed in By-election in 2012 and they won the most seats in Parliament. The number of seats reached dozens.
