Female superheroes were initially created by men for the male audience. Earlier representations of these women weren’t the best, but little did they know, these female superheroes were to become ass-kicking, patriarchy smashing icons.
Women back in the day were considered the weakest member of the superhero team. Now we have Storm, Rogue, Jean Grey, Psylocke dominating comic books and TV shows.
The representation of female superheroes are now better than before, but still, have a long way to go. Occasional sexist portrayals aren’t absent, but steps are being taken to move forward.

List of Top Female Superheroes: #7 Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau
Monica Rambeau was the second Captain Marvel to be featured in Marvel comics. The character is a police lieutenant and a cargo ship captain from New Orleans.
She gained her superpowers as a result of being exposed to extra-dimensional energy while preventing the creation of a dangerous weapon. Her list of superpowers include:
- Energy absorption, generation and manipulation
- Ability to travel at speeds up to the speed of light while in her energy form
- Ability to convert her body into any form of energy within the electromagnetic spectrum

Alison Blaire was born to be a singer. Her father, a stoic law student, was intolerant towards her dream and urged her to become an academic. She first discovered her superpowers during while performing at a middle-school dance.
Her performance blinded all in attendance except herself. When attending university, she came up with the stage name “Dazzler” and began exploring her powers and her musical ability.
The Disco queen hides her mutant status from her father and tells him of her decision to pursue singing instead of law. Dazzler took the sound of music, converted it into displays of color and claimed it was a “technological secret”.
She later joins the X-Men and learns to control her powers. She is

Anna Marie discovered she was able to absorb the life energy and psyche of others with skin-to-skin contact emerged when a boy named Cody impulsively kissed her and was left in a coma.
Believing her powers were a curse, she concealed her body to avoid the possibility of accidental skin contact. One of the most beloved members of the X-Men was once a part of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.
After years of training with the X-Men, she finally understood the magnitude of her superpowers and gained control of her superhuman abilities. Rogue is considered one of the best female superheroes as she has had several different abilities over time due to the nature of her unique mutant powers.

Played by American actress Scarlett Johansson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Black Widow is definitely one of the top female superheroes. Born in Stalingrad, Russia, Natasha is an agent trained as a spy, martial artist, and sniper.
The Soviet spy was raised in a Russian agency at the age of seven where the situation was either kill or be killed. She was first introduced as Iron Man’s antagonist, but soon renounced her role as a villain and started working alongside S.H.I.E.L.D.
She later joined the Avengers. Black Widow doesn’t have superpowers, but that doesn’t make her any less than other female superheroes. This lady’s list of skills is far more realistic and impressive than others, as she had to go through intensive training to become the superhero she is. She has been able to maintain her youthful appearance through bioengineering.

Black Widow is ranked number 176 in Wizard magazine’s greatest comic book character list. She is also ranked number 74 by IGN.

Ororo Munroe was raised in Harlem and Cairo. Her mother, a tribal princess of Kenya, and her father, an American photojournalist, were killed during the Arab-Israeli conflict. She met Professor X when she pickpocketed him and later became a part of not only the X-Men, but the
Avengers and the Fantastic Four as well. Storm is always compared to DC’s Wonder Woman, both being regarded as the most important female superheroes in comic books.
The lady was also the first major female character of African descent in comics. She represented African-American women all over the world. Her mutant abilities include:

Jean Grey was born to John, a professor at Bard College in upstate New York, and Elaine Grey. Her mutant powers were manifested when her best friend was hit by a car and killed. She discovered her telekinetic and telepathic powers when she mentally linked with her friend and almost died.
Professor X brought her back after she was induced into a coma following the accident. He blocked her telepathic abilities until she became able to control it. Thus, she was left with access only to her telekinetic powers. She joined the X-Men team and became the second most powerful telepath.

Our list of top female superheroes wouldn’t be complete if he hadn’t named Wonder Woman alongside all the other women. A founding member of the Justice League and a goddess, Princess Diana comes from the island Themyscira. She uses the alias Diana Prince while blending into society.
The demigod is first revealed to be sculpted from clay by her mother Queen Hippolyta and given life by Aphrodite. Her superpowers were gifts from the Greek gods. DC changed her origin story recently claiming she is the daughter of Zeus and Hippolyta, raised by her mother and her aunts Antiope and Menalippe.
Wonder Woman, a warrior with godlike strength, was created to be a role model for girls. She preached peace and love instead of war and violence. Wonder Woman, alongside Batman and Superman, completes the trinity of DC comics.
The feminist icon was played by Gal Gadot in the critically acclaimed solo movie. Her abilities include:
